If you go into pretty much any pro studio and have a look around, you'll find you're surrounded by lights and dials, weird machines, arrays of computer monitors and an endless supplies of priceless microphones. To the uninitiated, they look like a nuclear power station control room or GCHQ headquaters. These places are built to a very specific job and do it very well, but the fact is you don't need to build a custom, billion pound super studio to make great recordings.
